Seasons Greetings from Fr. Dustin

One late afternoon before Christmas a few years ago, a few brothers and I were watching Fellowship of the Ring. As Frodo, Samwise, Merry, and Pippin were fleeing those forbearing hooded Ringwraiths, crossing the river and heading to the Inn, one astutely observed: “It’s crazy how many friends they need for this journey, father. It’s a big world.” I can only think, correct, it’s a big world! Yes, we need friends for the journey.

I think of this insight often around the holidays. How for so many this season can be dreaded because of the friends no longer with us, or because many are incarcerated and separated from their loved ones. For those of us surrounded by those we love the most during this season, may we say a prayer, write a letter, or in some way share our love with those struggling. This makes the season even more blessed.

I am thankful for all of you, all of you who have become friends with us at Joseph House over the years. All of us here are wishing you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Blessed Holidays for each of you and those you love.
